Carroll Supervisors Approve Use of Single Rolling Hills Mental Health Advocate

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors were approached a couple of weeks ago by CEO of Rolling Hills Mental Health Region, Dawn Mentzer, and asked to consider joining in the use of a single mental health advocate for the district. Currently, Carroll County employs their own advocate, Brett Michael, but Mentzer was proposing that Sandy Sweeney, who acts as advocate for the other six counties, take over those responsibilities and move from a part-time employee to a full-time one. Supervisor chair, Marty Danzer, says they spoke with Carroll County Magistrate, A. Eric Neu, who made a recommendation.

Mentzer told supervisors this would be a cost-saving move for the entire district. Neil Bock, who sits on the Rolling Hills board, says he was seeking feedback from his peers to take back to that board.

Michael is considered an employee of Carroll County, and this consolidation will result in a termination of his services. Dean Schettler again brought up Neu’s recommendation of a transition period; adding that he thought it would be beneficial for Sweeney and Michael to meet so she can be brought up to speed on Carroll County clients. The board unanimously approved terminating Michael’s contract for services and bringing in Sweeney, effective July 1. In addition to Carroll, Rolling Hills serves Calhoun, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Crawford, Ida and Sac Counties.
