A Carroll singer will be honoring one of America’s greatest vocalists and songwriters, during the first week of 2019. Tim Tracy will present, “A Tribute to Gene Pitney—One Great Voice” in the Stoner Theater at Des Moines Performing Arts in Des Moines on Saturday, Jan. 5. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tracy, a music historian, singer, writer and director, will chronicle Pitney’s rise to fame through story and song. Pitney’s writing career got started when he wrote Ricky Nelson’s “Hello Mary Lou” in 1961 and “He’s a Rebel” for the Blossoms and the Crystals in 1962. Pitney also had a stellar recording career in his own right, charting 16 Top 40 hits in the United Kingdom and the United States. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Tickets for Tracy’s tribute are $24 each and can purchased at the door the day of the event or through the information included with this story on our website.
