The Carroll Public Library’s transition to their temporary location got underway fully yesterday (Wednesday). The Carroll City Council selected Library Furniture International to handle moving their collection and office equipment to the former Walmart location at 425 Highway 30 between Serendipity Acting Studio and Fastenal. Library Director, Rachel Van Erdewyk, says hiring professionals was the right choice, as it made the transfer a lot easier for everybody involved.

According to Van Erdewyk, they are bringing more than just books from the old library. She says they ripped up the flooring and reused it in an effort to keep costs down.

They estimate they saved around $10,000 by avoiding the purchase of new carpet at the temporary location. City hall is utilizing the same approach, repurposing cubicles, countertops and more in their move to the old Department of Transportation (DOT) offices. Van Erdewyk says they are continuing to look for other ways to cut costs. Once the staff has settled in, the focus will shift to moving furniture, books and other media. The library is scheduled to open for the public at their temporary location on Monday, Oct. 1.
