Carroll Public Library, Availa Bank And New Opportunities Host Book Drive For Underserved Children

Beginning next month, the Carroll Public Library is teaming up with Availa Bank and New Opportunities to collect books for children that may not have access to them. Residents are asked to review their personal book collections and consider if those books could be better used elsewhere. Library Director, Rachel Van Erdewyk, says it is important to encourage an interest in reading at a young age, and they are working with New Opportunities to focus on families who traditionally lack books in the home.

Books can be dropped off at the Carroll Recreation Center, Availa Bank and Carroll Public Library from July 1 to July 25 during regular business hours. Van Erdewyk says they will be collecting primarily for young children and has recommendations for people wanting to contribute.

The library is hosting a family-focused event near the end of July for kids to receive the donated items.

Adopt a Book Night takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Carroll Public Library on Thursday, July 26. The event is made possible thanks to support from Availa Bank, New Opportunities, the Carroll Public Library, Hy-Vee, Stone Printing and Fareway.
