Carroll Man Accused Of Drug Trafficking Could Face Additional Prison Time Due To Prior Out-Of-State Convictions

A Carroll man accused of drug trafficking has entered a not guilty plea to a felony charge filed against him in District Court for Carroll County. According to court records, 46-year-old Marcelino Del Angel, faces one count of second-offense possession of methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, a class B felony. The charge stems from an incident on Nov. 7 near the intersection of Railroad and Whitney Streets, in which a deputy with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office determined Del Angel had more than five grams of methamphetamine in his vehicle. Del Angel submitted his written not guilty plea last week. A class B felony generally carries a punishment of up to 25 years in prison, but Del Angel could face additional prison time due to a habitual offender enhancement from multiple felony convictions in Mower County, Minn., which include: fleeing from a peace officer in a motor vehicle, second-degree possession of controlled substances and fourth-degree sale of a controlled substance. A jury trial has been scheduled to begin early next year, with a pretrial conference slated for Jan. 4, 2019 at the Carroll County Courthouse.
