Carroll Fire Department Responds Swiftly To Fuel Spill Monday Afternoon

The Carroll Fire Department was called to the scene of a fuel spill at the Casey’s General Store on W Highway 30 Monday afternoon. The call came in at approximately 1 p.m. and was caused by a tanker truck from Quandt Transport Services, of Omaha, Neb., while it was transferring fuel. Crews used granular absorbent and pads to contain the spill. Fire Chief, Greg Schreck, says his crew was swiftly able to stop the fuel from spreading.

Eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane on the highway while crews worked to collect the fuel. Schreck believes the spill was caused when the underground tank was filled beyond its capacity. He believes the situation has been contained, considering their response time and the spills’ size.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 30 minutes. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is aware of the spill and will consider appropriate enforcement action if necessary. Officers from the Carroll Police Department assisted at the scene.
