Carroll County Working With Local Business For Purchase Of Land Trail Passes Over

Carroll County Conservation is working with Moorehouse Ready Mix to get a section of property transferred into the county’s name. Conservation Director, Jason Christensen, says that a recent survey brought to their attention that a portion of the old railroad tracks near the Kittyhawk corridor, on the eastern edge of Carroll, was actually purchased by Moorehouse Ready Mix. Carroll County had an agreement with the railroad to develop that section into a portion of the Sauk Rail Trail, but had not actually purchased it.

A real estate contract is being developed to attain that goal of county ownership.

Christensen says in all reality, they would like to purchase all of lot six, but Moorehouse is not interested in selling the entire parcel at this time. They anticipate more discussions in the future. The county does have deeds with all of the other property the trail travels through on both sides of this section. Christensen says the contract has been initially reviewed by County Attorney, John Werden, and he is grateful that Moorehouse is willing to transfer the property at a price that is really more than fair.
