The Carroll County Solid Waste Management Commission is inviting residents to pick up free compost later this week. On Thursday and Friday, compost will be available at the recycling center from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Commission accepts grass and leaves free of charge throughout the year. The debris is ground up and turned on a regular basis to provide nutrient-rich material that looks similar to black dirt. Director, Mary Wittry, says, “[We] sponsored several free compost days in 2016 and they were very successful. The Commission has very favorable results with the compost and wants to promote its use to residents.” The free event is open only to Carroll County households. Participants can pick up -compost on a first-come, first-served basis during the scheduled times, and staff will load a pickup or small trailer until the material is gone.
