Carroll County Jail Prisoner Sentenced To Additional Jail Time For Assaulting Another Inmate

An inmate at the Carroll County jail entered a guilty plea this week to a misdemeanor assault charge for striking another inmate. At approximately 5:27 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, jail staff became aware of a fight in the common room. According to court records, 44-year-old Darren Joseph Cox, of Carroll, disliked the way another inmate was talking on the phone and started a verbal altercation. The fight escalated and Cox struck the victim with intent to harm him. Cox was charged with assault, a simple misdemeanor and sentenced to two days in jail to be served concurrently with his current incarceration.
