An inmate at the Carroll County jail pled guilty last week to assaulting another prisoner. According to court records, 27-year-old Nicholas Allen Augustus entered his written guilty plea on Thursday, Dec. 13 to one count of assault, a simple misdemeanor. The charge stems from an incident on Nov. 15 at the Carroll County jail. Augustus is accused of entering the common area and attacking 30-year-old Bradley Barringer. Augustus struck the victim in the head with a closed fist and kicked him repeatedly. Authorities indicate that Barringer did not fight back during the altercation and did not provoke the attack. Based on his plea agreement with prosecutors, Augustus will likely be sentenced to 30 days in the Carroll County jail with all but two days suspended and credit for time served. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 20.
