Carroll County Jail Inmate Now Charged With Assault For Attacking Another Prisoner

A prisoner at the Carroll County jail, held on felony burglary and forgery charges, is now accused of assault after attacking another inmate last week. According to a criminal complaint from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Nicholas Allen Augustus has been charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor. The charge stems from an incident on Thursday, Nov. 15 at approximately 10:07 a.m. Another inmate, 30-year-old Bradley James Barringer, was using the jail’s telephone when Augustus exited a nearby cell and struck him multiple times in the head with a closed fist and kicked him repeatedly. Barringer reportedly did not fight back during the altercation. Augustus was arrested and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Friday, Nov. 30 at the Carroll County Courthouse. He remains in custody at the Carroll County jail and faces a maximum penalty of up to two years in prison and $1,875 in fines if found guilty of the charge.
