Carroll County Considering Speed Limit Change And Placement Of Yield Sign On Busy Templeton Road

The City of Templeton and the county had previously entered into a jurisdictional transfer, giving the county control over the section of County Road N18, also known as Ivy Avenue/Rye Street, that travels north from Highway 141 through the east edge of the community. County Engineer, Dave Paulson, says it is their responsibility to work jointly with the city on a proposal to lower the speed limits on that segment as well as the placement of a yield sign on the northbound curve of 2nd Street. The increased traffic on the southern portion of that road is the main reason for the requested speed reduction. Paulson points to a color-coded map that details the three different speed zones.

The second aspect of the proposed resolution is an effort to stop a number of close calls that occur because there is no traffic control for northbound traffic onto N18. There are currently stop signs for north and southbound traffic on that roadway but not at that particular entry point. Dean Schettler and Neil Bock both favored the installation of a yield sign, but asked about retention of the southbound stop sign and whether or not that would still be necessary.

Paulson says the decision is the jurisdiction of the county, but they are to check with the city as well. The supervisors tabled the discussion until the proposed resolution has been presented to Templeton city leaders. Maps of the proposed changes can be found below.
