Carroll County Board Of Supervisors Meet With Dorsey And Whitney Rep For First Time Since Choosing Firm

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors met Wednesday afternoon with a representative from the firm they hired to prepare the bond language for the November jail referendum. The board selected Dorsey and Whitney to advise them as they work on educating the public on the proposed $8.95 million project. Robert Josten, a partner with Dorsey and Whitney of Des Moines, met in person with his clients for the first time since being chosen over another firm, Ahlers and Cooney, and told the board how he would assist them moving forward.

The primary concern from the supervisors was properly executing their informational campaign for the public. Neil Bock asked Josten to explain what they are and are not allowed to do up until the November referendum.

He added this extends to advertisements, Carroll County’s website or any other method that utilizes taxpayer money.

According to Chair, Marty Danzer, the board was pleased with the information Josten provided, and he said they feel confident having hired Dorsey and Whitney as they proceed.

If over 60 percent of voters approve the referendum in November, the new, 16,800 square-foot jail would be attached to the west side of the existing courthouse and will be able to house 32 prisoners that can be expanded to 52, administrative space for the Sheriff’s Office and provide for secure prisoner transfers.
