Carroll Board Of Education Votes To Continue Equipment Insurance For Another Year, But Is Disappointed In The Cost

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education voted to continue with a breakdown insurance plan for next year at a special meeting Thursday night. The board was disappointed with the $177,000 premium last year and was considering ending the coverage until the company offered discounted rates. Business Manager, Gary Bengtson, says they only saw an approximate 15 percent return from the insurance.

Superintendent, Rob Cordes, and Bengtson negotiated with the insurance company for an $18,500 credit for this year’s premiums due to the low usage in 2017 and had the base rate dropped almost $80,000 to just under $100,000. Bengtson says the company told him the initial coverage term is often the most costly.

The policy would cover electronic display repairs, and the board did hear proposals on a $411,000 videoboard during the same meeting. Board members unanimously voted to continue with the coverage but noted they would consider ending the policy if they do not see a cost advantage.
