Carroll And Ar-We-Va Host Pride Scrimmage To Benefit Blank Children’s Hospital

The Carroll Tigers and Ar-We-Va Rockets are teaming up next week for a basketball double-header that will benefit kids at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines. The boys and girls teams from each school will be playing each other on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Carroll High School (CHS) gymnasium. Ar-We-Va Principal, Chris Petersen, says this provides the student athletes and fans to support their schools and a good cause.

The Ar-We-Va students ended up choosing to host a toy drive during their pride scrimmage as their way to give back, but they still needed to find a partner school. Petersen says it did not take very longer before they decided to approach Carroll with the idea.

He says Carroll got on board right away and that the game should be a lot of fun because students from both schools have gotten to know each other so well over the past several years of class sharing. According to Petersen, the whole purpose of the pride scrimmage is to provide a way for the schools and communities to give back. He says for this particular toy drive, the requested donations are somewhat particular.

They will also be collecting donations for the Goodfellows toy drive in Denison, and they will be accepting any new or gently-used toys. The girls game begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday followed by the boys matchup.  A table will be set up during those games for people to drop off their donations. Ar-We-Va will be accepting donations until Dec. 15, but the teams are hoping they can collect a large amount at the games next week.
