Campground Improvements In Lake View Put On Hold Due To High Costs

The Lake View City Council has put proposed improvements to a campground in town on the “backburner” after bids for the project came in higher than expected. Administrator, Scott Peterson, says the city had intended to make extensive changes to Camp Crescent on Black Hawk Lake’s northwest shore.

The city received two bids for the project, the lowest at $187,000, which was much higher than originally anticipated. In addition to the steep cost, Peterson says one of their funding avenues ended up falling through. Officials hoped to use money from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) State Revolving Fund (SRF) by incorporating rain gardens into the campground.

The project may be on hold for now, but Peterson says they still hope to make improvements to the campground at some point in the future.

Peterson adds the city will seek additional funding opportunities and continue to search for acceptable bids.
