Calhoun County Housing Assessment Reveals Two Main New Residential Needs

The recent public meeting on the Calhoun County housing assessment covered the county-wide statistics that have driven recommendations for each community. Commissioned by the Calhoun County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC), the assessment was conducted and results presented by RDG Planning and Design. A market survey was distributed to residents in all communities within the county, and they revealed a belief in a strong economy, but a lack of affordable housing and quality rentals, a lack of senior and retirement options but a great deal of support for action to rectify these issues. RDG has recommended the county will need to produce about 85 new units between 2019 and 2025 across two types, new rental housing and retirement townhomes. They also want many of these communities to invest in their local housing stock and rehab where opportunities are available.
