Bishop R. Walker Nickless Is Bringing The Discussion Of The Church’s Sexual Abuse Crisis To Local Parishes

The Most Reverend Bishop R. Walker Nickless will be traveling the diocese in October and leading discussions with parishioners regarding the renewed sexual abuse crisis in the church. The sessions will give attendees the opportunity to discuss their thoughts, hopes and fears. Bishop Nickless will begin each meeting with some remarks that include an overview of the diocesan protocol for responding to misconduct allegations and this will be followed by conversation, comments and questions. Bishop Nickless’ hope is that parishioners will leave with an understanding that the diocese is doing all it can to be spiritually and lawfully just and accountable. On Wednesday, Oct. 3, Nickless, Director of Catholic Charities, Amy Bloch, and Father Brad Pelzel, Vicar General, will be hosting the meeting in St. John Paul II Parish at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. with silent prayer. Additional meetings will be held on Monday, Oct. 29 in Holy Cross Parish at St. Michael Church in Sioux City and on Tuesday, Oct. 30 in Holy Trinity Parish at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge.
