Best Of Iowa-Grown Products Available During Farmers Market Week

National Farmers Market Week runs from Sunday, Aug. 5 through Saturday, Aug. 11 and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, is encouraging all Iowans to take advantage of the fresh fruits and vegetables available this time of year. “Farmers markets are a great place to find Iowa grown fruits, vegetables, meats and other products,” Naig says. “This is the time of year when our markets are packed with fresh, delicious local foods.” There are more than 200 farmers markets across Iowa and many are holding special events throughout the week. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, in partnership with the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa Department on Aging, also administer the WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Programs. These provide eligible low-income seniors and women and children in Iowa with checks that can be redeemed for fresh products at authorized farmers markets and farm stands from June 1 through Oct. 31. More information on those programs as well as a link to the Iowa Farmers Market and Farm Stand Directories can be found below.
