Baseball Bat And Machete Displayed As Weapons During Fight Over Holiday Weekend

A baseball bat and a machete were reportedly part of an altercation at a Storm Lake park over the holiday weekend. The Storm Lake Police Department reports that they were called to Chautauqua Park at approximately 7 p.m. Saturday, May 26, and upon arrival, learned from witnesses that the occupants of two vehicles had allegedly engaged in a verbal argument that escalated to at least two of the people arming themselves with the weapons. Some of the parties involved in the fight had reportedly fled in a light-colored vehicle. A second vehicle was stopped within the park, and a machete was seized from the occupants, 27-year-old Yoandy Ramirez Aquilar and 28-year-old Norbillo Alvarez, both of Storm Lake. Alvarez was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated and disorderly conduct, both simple misdemeanors. Aguilar was arrested and charged with carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor. The second vehicle that fled the scene is still being sought by authorities.
