Bad Authority Is “Good To Go” As Wednesday Night Opener For KISS Idol, Gene Simmons

Lead singer and guitarist for Carroll’s own Bad Authority, Kyler Brinker, says he and his bandmates, bassist and singer, Miles Millard and vocalist and drummer, Ted “Rudy” Ramaekers, will be happy to put the school year in the rear view mirror. This is mainly because it will lead to several months of bookings to open for a variety of different iconic bands. On Monday afternoon, Brinker says he got the email saying they would be opening for one of the bands’ leading influences, Gene Simmons of KISS, who is playing at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake Wednesday night. Brinker began working on getting the band on this ticket as soon as it was announced in January.

The KISS influence was instilled at a very early age when Brinker’s father introduced him to the rock bands of the 80s. And that affiliation was so strong that it ended up being the first moniker for the young musicians.

Bad Authority will get one hour prior to Simmons’ performance, and Brinker says the guys are ready to rock and roll. They have had a couple other shows similar in length, and can modified those to fit the crowd and the time length. He says they have a large enough repertoire now to be able to pull things together pretty quickly. They ran a practice Monday night, and he expects it will be a late night tonight (Tuesday) to get prepped for the Wednesday show, where they will be debuting some new songs.

The Three Dog Night show was at Hoyt Sherman Place last month, and Brinker says they were even able to include a piano ballad that they will be playing again Wednesday. The set list is about 85 percent originals and 15 percent covers, but the covers are not the norm either.

Doors for the Surf Ballroom event will open at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and tickets are available through the link included below. Brinker says there are several more booking announcements to be made in the near future. Some he is sworn to secrecy on, but he can confirm that they are currently booked to perform two nights of RAGBRAI, back-to-back nights, the first overnight in Denison and then opening for Hairball in Jefferson. They will also be opening for Stryper, one of their all-time favorite bands, on May 22 at Ralston Arena in Omaha, Neb. We will be releasing more details on other bookings and the new recording project in upcoming broadcasts.
