Authorities Say Body Found In Lee County Sunday Not That Of Mollie Tibbetts

Authorities are investigating the Sunday discovery of the body of a white female in her early to mid-20s in Lee County, but are assuring the public it is not that of a missing University of Iowa student. The Iowa Department of Public Safety reports the Lee County Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the DCI’s Crime Scene Team. Authorities say they are aware of the missing persons’ investigation of 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts and that she is not the Lee County decedent. As of Sunday evening, no other comments or statements were being released by authorities on either investigation. Tibbetts disappeared on July 18 after last being seen out for a jog near her boyfriend’s home in Brooklyn. Family members and friends believe that Tibbetts is still alive and has been abducted. They have established a Bring Mollie Tibbetts Home Safe Reward.
