Authorities Confirm Identity Of Driver Killed In Monday Afternoon Accident Near Lytton

The Sac County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol have confirmed that 44-year-old Deon Levi Wingert of Carroll was killed in a single-vehicle rollover accident Monday afternoon. Authorities were called to the scene on County Road N28 south of Lytton at approximately 2:31 p.m. and learned that Wingert’s 2017 Jeep wrangler had drifted off the right shoulder, struck a field drive and went airborne. The vehicle rolled several times, and even though Wingert was wearing a seatbelt, he was ejected from the Jeep. Bystanders attempted resuscitative measures, to no avail. Sac County Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the accident. They were assisted by the Sac and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Offices, the Lytton Fire Department, Sac County Paramedics and the Sac County Medical Examiner. Wingert, a former Carroll High School instructor and coach from 1999 to 2013, was working as a nurse at St. Anthony Regional Hospital.
