Audubon Welcomes Four New Teachers And Looks To Implement New Emergency Plans In 2018-19 School Year

The Audubon Community School District will have four new teachers on their staff this year to welcome students back on the first day of classes on Thursday, Aug. 23. According to Superintendent, Brett Gibbs, all of the new teachers are beginning their first year in the profession, and he is excited for the new ideas and energy they will bring to the district. Gibbs says they originally had five new teachers, but their Spanish teacher from Spain notified him last month that she would be unable to teach.

Gibbs adds it would have been difficult to find a suitable replacement for the fall semester with only a month left before classes. New teachers reported in last Thursday to get acquainted with the district. Audubon’s campus was bustling over the break with work completed on the roofs and to the landscaping in front of the 5-12 building. Gibbs says most people will not notice their biggest and most expensive project over the summer on the old boiler room in the elementary parking lot.

In total, redoing the old boiler cost approximately $150,000. Little has changed in terms of policy for families returning to the district, but Gibbs says the administration will be working to implement new plans in the event of a disaster.

The deadline to have those plans in place is June 30 of next year, but Gibbs notes they could be ready sooner than that. All teachers returned Monday for professional development and training. On Tuesday, the Audubon Chamber of Commerce hosts their welcome back for staff. Gibbs says the teachers always look forward to getting back into the classroom, and, to him, it is the best part of the year.

Fifth-grade orientation is scheduled for Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sixth- through eighth-grade orientation will also take place at that same time. All students return for the first day of classes on Thursday, Aug. 23. For more information, check the Audubon Community Schools website, a link to which can be found below.
