Audubon Police Officer Uses Firearm In Self-Defense While Responding To Report Of An Aggressive Dog

An Audubon police officer needed to use his firearm in self-defense last week while attempting to subdue a dog running at-large in Audubon. According to a press release from the city attorney, Mark Bosworth, the Audubon Police Department was called to the 600 block of South Division Street at approximately 1:18 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4 on a report of an aggressive dog. Upon arrival, an officer located a dog of an indeterminate breed and attempted to subdue the animal unsuccessfully. The department then requested assistance from the AMVC veterinary clinic, but the dog left the property and charged the officer before they arrived. The officer fired one shot, injuring the animal. Veterinary personnel attempted to provide medical treatment, but the dog was later euthanized. The dog’s owner was cited for keeping a vicious dog and animal at-large, both Audubon City Code violations.
