The Audubon FFA chapter has postponed a mission trip to Haiti due to political unrest and instability within the country. The group of eight students and two chaperones was scheduled to arrive in Haiti on July 25. Chapter Advisor, Brittany Elmquist, says the decision to delay the trip was made after riots and protests broke out after fuel prices skyrocketed a few weeks ago.
The U.S. Department of State currently has a level three travel advisory that recommends travelers reconsider visiting the county during this time. Elmquist says they would be unable to complete any work had they stayed with their original schedule.
She adds the group will still be making a trip to Haiti, just a few months later than planned.
While there, the group will spend about eight days building Safe T Homes from Sukup Manufacturing, visiting orphanages and educating residents on agricultural practices. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more information on the Audubon FFA mission trip in upcoming broadcasts.
