Audubon City Council Begins Exploring Capital Improvement Projects To City Departments

City officials in Audubon are exploring the possibility of making significant capital improvements across multiple departments over the next several years. City Clerk, Joe Foran, says the city council will be hearing from each department head in the coming months.

These projects range in scale from simple equipment replacement to entire department renovations. Foran was the first to present to the city council with a request for an optical document reader to create digital copies of city records. He says this approximately $6,500 purchase could save him and his staff a lot of time.

Foran is also seeking to digitize the city’s cemetery records. He says distant relatives will occasionally come in wanting to know where certain graves are located. He adds this is often a time-consuming process and their current records are beginning to show their age.

Foran hopes these changes can be implemented by the end of Fiscal Year (FY) 2019. He expanded farther into the future, saying the Clerk’s Office and Memorial Building will need renovations at some point and several office computers will need to be upgraded. The other department heads will be making their presentations at upcoming meetings. The city council meets next on Monday, March 26 at 5:30 p.m. in city hall.
