Audubon Authorities Identify Suspect From Stolen Vehicle Search On Wednesday

Audubon authorities have identified the suspect in a vehicle theft and area-wide search that began this past Wednesday. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office says the incident began with a report at about noon of a suspicious vehicle stuck in a field in the 1800 block of 170th Street. The caller also told the dispatcher that there was a male walking through his field. When officers arrived, they learned the car was reported stolen out of Jefferson that morning. A search was initiated and assistance was sought from the public and other law enforcement agencies. Around 2:30 p.m. a tip came in that the suspect received a ride to the Audubon Casey’s General Store. Shortly after that, another caller said a suspicious male was sitting in the lobby of a local church. At approximately 3:45 p.m. 30-year-old Joshua Michael Ackerson of Fort Dodge (other reports say he has a residence in Ida Grove) was detained at that church and transported to the Audubon County jail, where he was held pending extradition to Greene County. The Audubon County K-9 Axel, Audubon Police Department, Iowa State foot and air Patrol, Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the search.
