Auburn Man Accused Of Burglary And Weapons Charges Reaches Plea Agreement With Prosecutors

An Auburn man who allegedly burglarized a Carroll apartment while carrying weapons has reached an agreement with prosecutors to plead guilty to the charges filed against him. According to court records, 43-year-old Trevor Shawn Caughey is accused of breaking into a residence in the 900 block of N. East Street on May 25, 2017. Authorities later found Caughey in possession of a loaded Colt pistol and marijuana. He was originally charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony, carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor. In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors have agreed to drop the burglary charge. The plea agreement states a three-year prison sentence will be suspended, and Caughey will instead be placed on probation with the Department of Corrections for a period of two years. A hearing to accept his plea is scheduled for Monday, July 9 at the Carroll County Courthouse.
