Main Street Iowa hosted their 32nd annual awards ceremony last Friday, April 13, and more than a dozen local communities and individuals received recognition. Gov. Kim Reynolds and Director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s (IEDA) Iowa Downtown Resource Center, James Engle, presented the awards. “The Main Street Iowa program is a powerful catalyst for local revitalization and community investment,” Reynolds says. “As I travel across the state, I see over and over that Main Streeters are passionate, innovative and creative. They’re also committed to making their downtowns—and our state—a stronger, more sustainable place to live, work and raise a family,” The Jefferson program received recognition in four areas, with their Java & Juice events winning the Itty Bitty Nitty Gritty award and their Main Street Minute promotion winning for Outstanding Image Activity. Community member, Roger Aegerter was presented with a Leadership award and the program was recognized for their sixth year of commitment to the community. Manning once again drew the attention of the parent organization, reaching the $3 million benchmark for private dollars raised and seeing Marsha Clausen recognized with a Leadership award for her hard work and dedication to their historic downtown district. Other area community leaders presented with awards include Dick Bonsall and Brian Zehner of Dunlap, Randy Nickel of Guthrie Center and Dale Wegner of Sac City.
