Annual Sauk Rail Trail Spring Ride Sunday At Whiskey Run In Maple River

Sauk Rail Trail Association member, Ken Hoevelkamp says that last year, their annual Spring Ride fundraiser saw phenomenal crowds, even though it was cold and raining sideways. Hoevelkamp jokes that since last year’s attendees couldn’t get out on the trail, there was really nothing for them to do but stay inside and buy raffle tickets. This year, the weather forecast is calling for a beautiful day to ride a bike, and all joking aside, this is a big fundraiser for the non-profit association, having raised around $15,000 last year.

Some of the repairs and additions include the installation of bike repair stations and the paving of bridges and road crossings. They have also made upgrades at the Houlihan Access point in Carroll.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for that is being planned for June. Sunday, April 29, area and regional bicycle shops will attend the Spring Ride and assist riders during the event. These businesses have also made donations to the raffle, including bicycles and an elliptical trainer. Other items featured are stays at the Boulder Inn in Lake View, the Carrollton Inn and the new Swan Lake State Park cabin, a smart thermostat, a gift basket from the Wild Rose Casino Jefferson and much more. Raffle tickets can be purchased throughout Carroll—at Carroll Broadcasting, Commercial Savings Bank and Whylie Eye Care, or they can be bought the day of the ride. You need not be present to win. The three-hour event will also include live music and door prizes. The Saul Rail Trail Spring Ride will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Whiskey Run in Maple River.
