Ames Man Becomes Confrontational With Jefferson Officer

An Ames man was taken into custody after becoming confrontational with a Jefferson Police Officer. At approximately 10:05 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, a patrol unit was flagged down by a man on crutches in the 700 block of North Cedar Street. When the officer stopped, 39-year-old Dean Emmet Salzwedel, Jr. began yelling at the officer and challenged him to a fight. The officer maintained a safe distance from Salzwedel while waiting for backup. Once other officers arrived, Salzwedel was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, a simple misdemeanor.
