A Shoplifting Charge Will Likely Be Upgraded After Search Uncovers Potentially Illegal Substances

A Carroll man has found himself in even more trouble than just a minor shoplifting charge. At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, the Carroll Police Department received a report of a theft at the Bomgaars on Highway 30 West. Upon their arrival, 38-year-old Jared Ransom was arrested for fifth-degree theft on allegations he shoplifted $1.27-worth of merchandise. During the arrest, however, items suspected to be controlled substances were located on his person. Further testing is required to make a final determination on the type of substances and charges are pending laboratory results.
