A Lawsuit Filed Against CCSD Claims Broken Sidewalk Caused Injuries In Fall Two Years Ago

A lawsuit filed last week against the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) claims they are liable for damages caused by their failure to maintain safe sidewalks. According to the petition, Stefanie Wiegmann, a social worker, was at the Adams Elementary School on March 4, 2016 for business. Her attorney, Matt Reilly, says the case is related to a fall caused by broken and uneven pavement while she was leaving the building.

Wiegmann, who was pregnant at the time, broke her ankle as a result of that fall. The petition states the school was aware of the damaged sidewalk and exhibited negligence by failing to adequately correct the problem or notify the public of the dangers posed. According to Business Mananger, Gary Bengtson, the district only became aware of the lawsuit yesterday (Tuesday). He says the administration has not had enough time to examine the case but indicates the district’s insurance company generally handles issues like this.

In the petition, Wiegmann is requesting a jury trial to review the case and is seeking unspecified damages for past and future medical expenses, loss of body, pain and suffering, lost wages and any additional damages that may have occurred.
