A Controlled Burn Became A Risk Wednesday With High Winds

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson and Paton Fire Departments all responded to a fire in the 1700 block of 170th Street at approximately 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Sheriff, Jack Williams, reports that there was a controlled burn of wooden planks from the windmill project taking place. However, the winds came up and the fire had the potential to ignite a nearby bean field and a large plot of switch grass. There were no injuries and no damage was reported.
