Write-Ins Ruled The Day In Several Carroll County Races Tuesday

There were several contested races around Carroll County on Election Day, but there were also some interesting numbers reported in a few communities as write-ins ruled the day. In Dedham, there were two candidates on the ballot, Tony Seidl and Christopher John Hoffman, but there were three open spots. Write-in candidate, Tony Derner, received 13 votes, enough to make him the winner of that third seat, if he decides to accept. Lanesboro’s mayor, Shirley Thompson, had not met the filing deadline, but she won back her position for a two-year term with write-ins totaling 18 votes. She beat out another write-in candidate, Vernon Main, who received 15 votes as well as Jamie Hanlon, who was on the ballot and received 10 votes. Halbur found itself with two open slots and only one candidate, Bryan Wittrock, who received 26 votes. The other council seat will be offered to write-in candidate, Matt Riesselman, who received 17 votes. And finally, the town of Willey will be asking write-in candidate, Ryan Rath, if he will accept the nomination with his nine votes. The other seat went to Keith R. Schreck who received a total of 19 votes. All of these write-ins will have the option to accept or decline. If they decline, the council will make an appointment to fill the open seat until the next election. We will bring you more from our area communities in upcoming broadcasts.
