Winterset Woman Treated For Injuries From Two-Vehicle Accident Near Dedham Tuesday

A Winterset woman was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries received in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday near Dedham. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reports that at approximately 5:33 p.m., a 2013 GMC Sierra K1500, driven by 28-year-old Matthew Thomas Schmitz of Dedham, was stopped at the stop sign on Olympic Ave. to the south of Highway 141. He did not see an eastbound 2014 Ford Escape, being driven by 54-year-old Jeri Jean Simon, and proceeded northbound through the intersection. Simon swerved in an attempt to miss hitting the Schmitz vehicle, but was too late and the front of the GMC sideswiped the front of the Ford. Simon’s vehicle came to rest in the northeast ditch while the Schmitz truck spun 180 degrees and came to rest facing south. Simons was transported for treatment of injuries by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services. There was an estimated $15,000 in damages to both vehicles, and Schmitz was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and failure to yield the right of way.
