Whiterock Conservancy in Coon Rapids is looking for volunteers to join them this weekend in an effort to clean a section of the Raccoon River. On Saturday, June 10, willing volunteers will meet at 1314 Fig Ave. at 9 a.m. Whiterock staff will transport the volunteers about a mile upstream where they will then float down the river, collecting debris and waste as they travel. The clean-up is expected to last about three hours. Once everything is finished, Whiterock Conservancy is providing a free lunch for those who helped out. For those who do not have their own canoe or kayak, there a limited number that can be reserved by calling Rob Davis at 712-684-2697 ext. 103. Families are encouraged to attend and join in the project. The cleaning efforts are a part of Raccoon River Day sponsored by the Des Moines Water Works.
