We Can Learn A Lot About Giving From Our Neighbors

This is the time of year for giving, and we can get ideas on ways to help others from a wide variety of different fundraising efforts in our part of the state. For example, a longstanding fundraiser in Storm Lake will be revisited again this year. For the past 11 years, the Storm Lake Police Department has held their annual Gloves of Love Program. The 12th year will get underway on Monday, Nov. 27 with a Christmas tree in the lobby of the Public Safety Administration Building. Everyone is invited to join members in placing children’s gloves and other related items on or near the tree. They will also accept donations of non-perishable food items. These will then be collected and delivered to the Upper Des Moines Office to be distributed to children and families in need throughout the community. “During this Holiday Season, it is our hope that we can collect a large amount of donated items from the generous citizens within our community and in turn provide those items and food to those in need so that the Spirit of Christmas can burn bright in the hearts of those less fortunate than ourselves,” says Lt. John Bauer, Treasurer of the Association.
