Ward One Councilman, Mike Kots, Says He Put A Lot Of Thought Into Another Run After Six Years On Carroll City Council

First Ward councilman, Mike Kots, has lived in the Carroll area since 1995, having moved into the city limits about 10 years ago. He currently works at American Professional Quilting as a shop manager, but it was his background as a Master Sergeant in the Army that motivated him to accept a seat on the Carroll City Council six years ago when he was appointed after Adam Schweers’ became mayor.

Kots says for this election, he waited until about half way through the filing period before actually making the decision to run again.

When it comes to the mix of personalities that are really necessary to make up an effective and wholly representative governing body, Kots says he feels he brings something special and crucial to the mix.

And though there are always a lot of high-profile projects and council issues, Kots says he is really pleased with the strides made with local law enforcement during his six years. Whether it be the purchase of TASERs, policy updates or the K-9 patrol, he likes being involved in that process. He says he is also very passionate about train horn mitigation and the sidewalk program, and they are initiatives he hopes to see move forward. Looking back on things that he would like to have played out differently, Kots says he is generally pretty pleased about the way things have gone. And when asked about prioritizing what the council will be dealing with in the future, Kots says everything is important. You name it, pretty much everything is a big topic to somebody, he adds. It is the council’s charge to do what is in the best interest of their constituents on all items. Even though Kots is running uncontested for the Ward one seat, he says he is there to represent them, as well as all of the people of Carroll.

Kots says he holds to an open door policy and is happy to hear from residents at any time. He can be reached through the contact information included below. City elections will be held Tuesday, Nov. 7. Stay tuned to your Carroll Broadcasting stations for the remainder of the week as we bring you interviews with all Carroll city candidates.
