US Census Report Shows Decline In Seven-County Area

The 2016 annual population estimates from the United States Census Bureau reveal the continuation of a downward trend for much of the rural area. Of the 38 area communities included in the report, only three showed positive numbers, Willey with an increase of 12, Denison was up by seven and Halbur’s population increased by three. Some of the bigger communities in the seven-county region have seen the biggest decline in numbers. Sac City comes in fifth with a loss of 117 people in one year, while Chariton is fourth at 130, Carroll is third, down 156 and Jefferson is second, losing 176 residents in 2016. Audubon was reported to have the largest decline in the area, down 206 from 2015. A full copy of the report can be found with this story on our website.
