Unemployment Trends Continue To Be Lower Than 2016

The year-long trend of unemployment rates falling below the 2016 averages continued in the month of September as Iowa Workforce Development reports the Western Iowa Advantage Region’s eight-county results. For the region, the unemployment rate average decreased from 3.4 percent at this time in 2016 to 2.8 percent. The statewide average was recorded at 4.2 percent in 2016, and down a full point to 3.2 percent in 2017. These numbers represent a decrease in total regional unemployment by 1,900 people. The lowest two counties were Greene and Ida, both reporting 2.3 percent unemployment for September, with Carroll County close behind at 2.4 percent. All but two other counties remained below three percent, with Sac at 2.7, Adair at 2.8 and Guthrie at 2.9 percent. Audubon and Crawford were the only two counties in the region above the three percent mark, with Audubon at 3.1 and Crawford coming back much closer to regional averages at 3.7 percent.
