Two Properties Torn Down Wednesday In Lake City As Part Of The Town’s Effort To Improve Appearance

Lake City is continuing to make strides in their effort to remove derelict properties from city limits as two long-standing, problem buildings were torn down today (Wednesday). City Administrator, Eric Wood, says they are not done yet as the city has contracted Brian Gruhn, a lawyer from Cedar Rapids, to handle the derelict property court cases.

The city starting pursuing derelict property owners aggressively in July, and the two houses torn down today are a sign their efforts are showing results. Wood says they will be turning their attention to less serious infractions after finishing up with the major ones.

Wood adds many citizens are pleased with the improvements and would like to see more done. Lake City is encouraging new growth and development by selling forfeited lots for cheap to people or companies interested in building new homes.
