Two Organizations Working Together To Help Tyson Employees With Closing Of Tyson Transition Center

Iowa Workforce Development and the Region XII Council of Governments are working together to offer services to those affected by the Tyson plant closing in Denison after the Tyson Transition Center closes on Sept. 30. Going into 2017, the expectation was that the center would remain open until July of 2018, but when that deadline was moved up, the two organizations immediately began working on plans to cover the heavy usage from the Tyson dislocation. IowaWorks has committed three Carroll-based staff members to provide services in a new location two days per week, offering access to all IowaWorks programs. That new location, however, has not yet been announced. The Tyson Transition Center was originally opened to service employees for only six months after the plant closing in August of 2015. However, high usage influenced some additional federal funding to help keep it open for another 18 months.
