Two Area Schools Take Top Spots In Bank Iowa Traveling Challenge Cup

Two area schools have been named 2016-17 Bank Iowa Traveling Challenge Cup winners. Kuemper Catholic High School placed first for Class 2A schools, and Audubon High School took the top spot in Class 1A. Kuemper earned a total of 1,105 points and defeated second place Sioux Center by 190, the largest margin of victory in any of the four classes. Audubon scored 670 points during the year and took first place only 20 points ahead of Bishop Garrigan. Points are tallied based on each school’s success in athletics, musical competitions, speech contests and academic achievement. This is Kuemper’s sixth Bank Iowa Traveling Challenge Cup win. They also won the cup for 2009-10, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16. Audubon now has two Challenge Cup wins, the last in 2013-14. Each school will receive a $2,000 stipend from Bank Iowa to support school programs. Both schools have a celebration assembly being planned, but final dates and times are not yet available.
