From Feb. 13 to March 13, Iowans submitted over 9,200 nominations for nearly 500 restaurants in the search for Iowa’s Best Burger. The Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association tallied the results to whittle those numbers down to the 10 establishments that garnered the most votes. In our area, Doc’s Stadium Bar & Grill in Jefferson and the Smokin’ Hereford in Storm Lake landed spots for the next round of competition. Now, the top 10 will be visited by anonymous judges who evaluate the burgers on taste, appearance and proper doneness (160 degrees). The judges’ scores and comments will be tabulated and the winner will be announced on May 1. Previous area winners include the Coon Bowl III in 2012 and Sac County Cattle Company in Sac City in 2010. A full list of the top ten restaurants can be found below.
