Three Injured In Three-Vehicle Accident South Of Templeton Friday

Three people sustained injuries in a three-vehicle accident Friday afternoon in Audubon County. The Iowa State Patrol reports that a trooper was dispatched to the scene between Templeton and Audubon at approximately 12:34 p.m. A 2017 Ford F250, driven by 28-year-old Melissa Leigh Mitchell of Flower Mound, Texas, was traveling north on Highway 71 near the intersection with 130th Street. She began to pass a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 60-year-old David Shawn Robinson of Audubon, but says she did not see a third vehicle on the roadway. A 2007 Dodge Caravan, driven by 56-year-old Glenn Charles Vaghy of Ralston, was southbound on Highway 71. The front right of the Mitchell vehicle struck the rear left box of the Robinson pickup, causing him to exit the roadway and come to rest on the shoulder. Mitchell then struck the left front of the Vaghy Dodge, with the Caravan coming to rest on the north shoulder and the Mitchell truck coming to rest on the south shoulder. Both Mitchell and Vaghy and a passenger, 47-year-old Matthew Jon Collison of Carroll, were transported to the Audubon County Memorial Hospital by Audubon County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries. Robinson was uninjured. There was an estimated $50,000 in damage to the Mitchell vehicle, $4,500 to the Robinson truck and $3,000 to the Vaghy van.
