The Grasses At Wall Lake’s Lagoon Will Be Trimmed By Sheep, Not Mowers, This Summer

Grass at the lagoon in Wall Lake will no longer be maintained by public works employees after the City Council approved a farmer’s request to allow his sheep to graze on city property. Greg Schroeder, a sheep farmer who lives outside of town, approached the council with a unique suggestion. Allowing him to keep some of his livestock at the lagoon could be beneficial to both him and the city. City Clerk, Chris Rodman, says Wall Lake has over 40 acres of grasses that need to be mowed each week and it can be difficult to manage all of it each week. By granting Schroeder’s request, the city will reduce its workload by nearly 5 acres. The city council unanimously approved the request on a trial basis. If this first year is a success, the city will consider opening up a bidding process for access to the land in the future.
