St. Anthony Foundation Awards 28 Scholarships To Area College And High School Students

On Thursday, May 11, 28 area high school and college students were presented with more than $19,600 in scholarships from the St. Anthony Foundation. These students from Audubon, Calhoun, Carroll, Crawford, Greene and Sac Counties are pursuing healthcare careers. “For St. Anthony, this is an honor to award our scholarships to deserving students in west central Iowa each year,” says Development Director, Trish Roberts. “We do it with the goal of encouraging their continued education in health care.” Roberts adds they are very grateful to the families and donors who make the scholarships possible through their gifts to the St. Anthony Foundation. A full listing of the 2017 scholarship recipients can be found below.

The 2017 scholarship recipients include: 

  • Stacey Kasperbauer of Carroll received the Sharon Staton Peters Memorial Scholarship. She graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1998 and is currently seeking her bachelor of science in nursing degree and doctorate in nursing practice from Creighton University. 
  • Randi Boell of Carroll, a 2004 Carroll High graduate, was presented the Elizabeth Riedmann Health Care scholarship. Randi is working towards a bachelor of science in nursing degree through the University of Iowa. 
  • Madison Badding of Carroll, a 2017 Kuemper graduate, was the recipient of the Margaret Seidl Health Care Scholarship. Madie plans to pursue her bachelor of science nursing degree at Grand View University. 
  • Amanda Grade, 2006 Glidden-Ralston graduate, and Madison Sturm, 2016 Glidden-Ralston graduate, both of Glidden, received a Dick and Marsha Simons Health Care Scholarship. Both are studying nursing, Amanda at DMACC and Madison at Iowa Central. 
  • Cody Schumacher of Lake City, a 2017 graduate of South Central Calhoun, was awarded the Rick Simons Health Care scholarship. He plans to attend DMACC to study nursing. 
  • Tara Kane and Jessica Venner of Carroll were each awarded a Sheryl M. Venner Stoolman Memorial Scholarship. Tara graduated from Kuemper Catholic in 1996 and is studying nursing at DMACC. Jessica is a 2017 Kuemper graduate who will dual enroll for radiological technologies and medical imaging at Clarkson College.
  • Erin Wallace, a 2017 Kuemper graduate of Carroll, received the Sheryl M. Venner Stoolman EMS Scholarship. She plans to study emergency medical services (EMS) at DMACC.

 

Several scholarships were presented at high school awards programs in St. Anthony’s service area. Students awarded a St. Anthony Foundation Healthcare Scholarship include: 

  • Kaitlin Schulte, a graduate of Audubon, will be attending Northwest Missouri or Central College for biology this fall.
  • Brianna Davis of Coon Rapids, a Coon-Rapids Bayard graduate, plans to study nursing at DMACC in Ankeny.
  • Anastasia Rogers of Denison plans to pursue a degree in psychology at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
  • Riley Fischer, of Sac City and a graduate of East Sac, will attend the University of South Dakota to pursue her bachelor of science nursing degree.
  • Miranda Olerich, a graduate of Glidden-Ralston, plans to study nursing at DMACC in Ankeny.
  • Hannah Stein of Jefferson, a graduate of Greene County High School, will attend the University of Northern Iowa to study biology with a biomedical emphasis.
  • Alexis Karsten of Manning, a graduate of IKM-Manning, will pursue her career as a pre-physician assistant at the University of Iowa.

 

Other scholarship recipients through St. Anthony include: 

  • Saraya Thomsen of Vail was the recipient of a Dick Blair Memorial Scholarship. Saraya is an Ar-We-Va graduate and plans to study clinical psychology at the University of South Dakota.
  • Carlie Gladden of Carroll was given the Sarah Keat Danner Healthcare Scholarship. Carlie is a Carroll High School graduate and plans to study nursing at the University of Iowa.
  • Ashley Sibenaller, a 2015 Kuemper Catholic High School graduate, was awarded the Susan D. Ludwig Healthcare Scholarship. Ashley, of Carroll, is studying nursing at Grand View University.
  • Ashley Feld, a Carroll High School graduate, received the Helen M. Schmitz Memorial Scholarship. Ashley will be attending the University of Iowa to study physical therapy.  
  • Alexa Badding and Kendra Peter of Carroll each received a Bob and Mary Lou Ware Memorial Scholarship. Alexa is a 2014 graduate of Kuemper who is studying kinesiology with a pre-physician assistant option at Iowa State University. Kendra is a 2016 Kuemper grad who is pursuing her degree in nursing at DMACC.
  • Dawn Uhlenkamp of Carroll, a 1994 Ontario High School (California) graduate, was the recipient of the Mary Thaler Yates Memorial Scholarship. Dawn is studying nursing at Western Iowa Tech Community College. 

 

Several scholarships were also presented on behalf of the St. Anthony Auxiliary. Students awarded a St. Anthony Auxiliary Scholarship include: 

  • Katelyn Sikkema of Carroll, is a 2014 Carroll High School graduate who is attending DMACC for nursing.
  • Lydia Johnson of Arthur is a 2013 graduate of OA-BCIG. She is currently studying nursing at DMACC.  
  • Madison Stenbo, of Carroll, plans to study kinesiology at Iowa State University. She is a 2017 graduate of Carroll High.
  • Morgan Hugeback, of Halbur and a 2017 graduate of Kuemper Catholic, will pursue her career as a medical laboratory technician at Iowa Central Community College. 

 

In addition to the St. Anthony scholarships awarded, Cheri Theulen, RN, OCN, Clinical Supervisor of Same Day Surgery and Infusion Therapy, received the Iowa Hospital Association IHERF (Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation) Scholarship. Cheri is a 36 year employee of St. Anthony Regional Hospital and is attending Upper Iowa University for her bachelor of science in nursing degree.
