St. Anthony Chief Of Staff Elected Chair Of Iowa Board Of Medicine

St. Anthony Regional Hospital’s Chief of Staff and Cardiologist, Dr. Kyle Ulveling, has been elected to chair the Iowa Board of Medicine. He was appointed to the board by former Gov. Terry Branstad in 2015 and served as secretary last year. He was elected to lead the nine other board members in June. The board has members from across the state who regulate and license physicians who practice in Iowa. They also evaluate complaints brought against those physicians and provide input on medical policy for the state legislature. “I was quite surprised and humbled to learn that the governor had made the decision to appoint me to the Iowa Board of Medicine,” Dr. Ulveling says. “I was extremely humbled that my peers on the board nominated me for chair.” Members of the board are appointed by the governor and confirmed by a two-thirds majority vote of the Iowa Senate. They serve a three-year term up to a maximum of nine years. Dr. Ulveling is a Breda native and Kuemper graduate. He graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb. with his bachelor’s degree in biology and his medical doctorate. He then completed his medical and chief residencies and cardiovascular disease fellowship at Creighton University Medical Center. He began his cardiology practice at the Iowa Heart Center at St. Anthony in 2013 and was elected chief of staff in November of 2016. He lives in Carroll with his wife, Onica, and their two sons, John and James. He also currently serves as the secretary/treasurer of the Iowa Chapter of the American College of Cardiology.
